The Wizard of Oz returns to the big screen!

Hey guys, Tatiana Carrier here with ClevverMovies, your number one source for movie news. Well, as you may have heard, The Wizard of Oz is getting their prequel on the big screen, but it doesn't look like it will be your typical remake. Thank goodness! Joey King sat down with teenspot.com to talk about her roles in Sam Raimi's 'Oz the Great and Powerful', and also told them a little about the structure the new film will be taking. "It's a prequel to 'The Wizard of Oz...It's like the first movie, but this one explains how it all happened, how Oz became Oz, how it led to Dorothy coming." King also lets us know that like the old film, this one will also begin in black and white Kansas and then transition to the colorful world of Oz.

Joey claims that working on such a huge project is 'amazing,' but considering that she's comparing that to working on Christopher Nolan's 'The Dark Knight Rises," we might just have to take her word for it. However, with James Franco as Oz and Michelle Williams as Glinda, it looks like Oz the Great and Powerful can't really go wrong. Keep your eye out for this film in March 2013.

So do you guys think the new Oz will be amazing? Let us know what you think by commenting below, and make sure to sound off on our Twitter page @clevvermovies. I'm Tatiana Carrier, thanks for checking in.

  • This movie will obviously have nods to the film (ala the opening being black & white), but it will be more based on the books. This is apparent due to the fact that Joey King is playing "China Girl" which was in the books and not the original film. Sam Raimi (Spider-Man series) is directing, so I have a lot of faith in the film and am for one excited to see how it comes out.

  • I always thought "Wicked" was the prequel to "The Wizard Of Oz"...

  • @Yrpffx21234 'Wicked' was in a sense a prequel, but this film will focus on how the Wizard came to Oz and his relationship with the witches. Mila Kunis and Rachel Weisz will be playing the other 2 witches.

  • I see this being like reality tv. Just Dorothy working on a farm and having family problems

  • @gkntym Though I'm sure that would be an interesting show, I don't believe Dorothy will be appearing in the film.

  • I heard on GBTV a while ago that The Wizard of Oz was actually a Politcal statement and not just a movie. This seems interesting, Directors keep making Remakes of old movies. Whats next? Titanic? :I. I dont mind it just seems a little extravagant

  • I'm writing a script for Oz it's set when Dorothy's now 18 and returns to Oz to stop a powerful Evil, that returns....

  • i love how this is being filmed close to me :D haha

  • I meant prequel :S

  • i do hope joey wasnt comparing to the nolan's the dark knight rises (directly)

doing such a thing (or similar) without having a strong base for themselves can do for them like what happened to megan fox.. so actors.. tip: watch what you say.. could make or break you

  • @Winduct this is going to be a waste of money and i agree that they should make wiked into a movie wrather than this. its is gonna be a waste of money, film and time. the last movie i saw that was a waste of all three was 2008 cameron diaz and james marshden , the box. worst movie i have ever seen in my life. well second worst after sex in the city 2

  • @jsmalls911 Hollywood is running out of ideas and they need money.

  • hmm, the transition from B&w to color was cool in the original because both black and white and color movies were being made, color was new... But this? :/

  • This sounds cool, I might watch it.
