Yal Devi operates to Thandikulam 6th June 2009

The Yal Devi train which left the Colombo Fort Railway Station this morning has reached Thandikulam linking the North and the South.
The train commenced its journey after multi religious observances at 6 a.m. today. Ministers Dulles Allahapperuma and Tissa Karaliyadde, Deputy Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Parliamentarian Nandana Gunatilleke and General Manager Railways P.P. Wijesekera joined in this railway journey. A notable feature was the participation of a group of Tamil young men and women of Vavuniya, symbolizing the Sinhala Tamil brotherhood. North Central Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake and Tamil National Alliance Parliamentarian Shivanathan Kishore welcomed the train in Vavuniya. Thereafter it reached Thandikulam. Present at this destination to greet the train was a group including Head of the Uthuru Wasanthaya Task Force and Senior Presidential Advisor and Parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa. After multi religious observances to invoke blessings on the journey of the train, the first ticket of the Uthuru Mithuru project was presented by Minister Dulles Allahaperuma to Basil Rajapaksa. Mr. Rajapaksa said the Governments intention was to bring civilian life in the North to normality as soon as possible. Ministers Dulles Alahapperuma and Douglas Devananda also expressed their views. Ministers Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan, Risath Baithiyuddeen and Susantha Punchinilame were present. The foundation stone to build the Omanthai Railway Station was also laid today.
