**I am talking about over-use. Some vocal fry is a natural part of human speech patterns.**

  • Thought you'd appreciate your post being quoted on the NY Times comments on this topic.

Youtube doesn't like links so look on NY Times.com for this article, scroll down for the comment section, sort for newest first, it's near the top:

"They’re, Like, Way Ahead of the Linguistic Currrrve"

  • @Shmecklecka Hahahaha, thanks! That's insane! I was wondering why this video has been getting so many views lately!

  • I had no idea what 'vocal fry' was until I read an article on it today in the New York times. So I looked it up here and found your video. Best explanation, thank you.

  • By the way, this phenomenon really got me going a few months ago when listening to an NPR program on really important economic topics. They had a young professional call in as a guest and she kept frying up her vocals. It was so grating (and horrifying for a "professional") I had to turn the radio off and just drive in silence.

  • I never knew this had a name until Wait Wait Don't Tell Me (NPR show) had this as a trivia question about Britney Spears (I think in January). Recently some women friends and I were talking about this annoyance and finally it has a name. At work, we were doing it on purpose? And with question marks? You know like at the end of every sentence? And then end in a vocal fry-y-y-y-y-y.

    Great video!

  • You have amazing eyes.

  • Brilliant. You have a great sense of humour. :)

I found this after reading the NYT article as well!

  • Good.Let the ninnies of the world fry their chords awayyyyyy. Can't stand insipid idiots that speak like that.

  • great great job !!!

  • @PubliusAfricanus Agreed lol !

  • @RhymeWirePoetry Our paper got the article today. Love how they tried to turn it into some feminist empowerment BS.

  • There was an nytimes article about young women's speech patterns and how they are perceived vs who they are actually used by
