when you say it's the insurance companies job to pay these guys out, I really can't see why. your mates paid for a product and got what they paid for. they should have read any clauses and read the pds document that was sent to them and then made a decision as to whether what they were buying was right for them.

while i feel for your mates, there is responsibility on both sides, customers and insurance companies to make sure everyone is getting it right and obviously your mates didn't.
