PADRITO is the first adult male hawksbill to be equipped with a satellite tag in the eastern Pacific. He was captured on 9 July 2010 in the waters of the Estero Padre Ramos Natural Reserve in Nicaragua by the Hawksbill Project, a program led by the local fishing cooperative COJIZOPA (Cooperativa Multisectorial Jiquilillo, Los Zorros y Padre Ramos). Estero Padre Ramos is a newly discovered nesting hotspot for the species in the eastern Pacific.

Padrito was released to cheers and applause by local inhabitants from the communities of Venecia, Los Zorros and Padre Ramos. This effort would not have been possible without the hard work by the Hawksbill Project staff from the Estero Padre Ramos Natural Reserve, members of the local communities, Fauna and Flora International, the Eastern Pacific Hawksbill Initiative (ICAPO), the National OCeanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF), The William Donner Foundation and the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources of Nicaragua (MARENA).
