QUESTION: Regarding the Congressional ban on exploration in the outer continental shelf as well as drilling in ANWR. What are your feelings about those issues? How should we move ahead on further exploration?

10/16/08: Elwyn Tinklenberg (DFL) and Minnesota 6th District Representative Michele Bachmann (R) met at the St. Cloud Public Library for a debate sponsored by the St. Cloud Chamber of Commerce.

  • We in the USA, are consuming pigs. Let's turn off some lights, unplug appliances we aren't using, turn down the heat a degree or two. Car pool when we can, plan our trips to Cub, Target, the post office, etc. so we aren't running to & fro wasting fuel.

Watch how much plastic we use & try to cut back - plastic is made of OIL which is a non-renewable resource.

    Recycle for cryin' out loud.

For ourselves, our country, most importantly for future generations.

    Call it "patriotic".

  • I wish I could give you 5 thumbs up. Thanks for stating exactly what I was thinking!

  • Wow...ANWR is a secured national wildlife preserve. The amount of oil we may POSSIBLY get would be exhausted by the US in 6-9 months AND the threat of a spill would wreak havoc on the entire ecosystem, not to mention the costs of buiding transportation modes and support facilities to get to the oil- which would also wreak havoc on the ecosystem.

  • Tinklenberg is right on target, OPEC is taking measures to reduce production in an attempt to raise the price of oil.

He knows the market, he knows the issue.

He has my vote and my donations.

  • We have ALL seen what free, unregulated markets have done to our economy - this approach has clearly failed.

Our economy needs new direction with clear goals and policies put in place to nudge us into that direction.

Bachmann demonizes protecting our national resources? This is ideologically an incorrect approach to a growing global issue regarding dwindling finite fossil sources of energy.

To say you "support all" yet want to drill everywhere and have Gov "get out of the way" gets us nowhere

  • Bachmann, oil is a "fungible commodity" that goes into a global market. We sit on 3% of the world's oil supply while consuming 25% of the world's production daily.

We are NOT going to drill our way out of our oil dependence - producing more here holds virtually NO consequence on either supply or price.

We need a NEW direction toward new renewable sources of energy.

Thank God intelligent people are aware of these facts.

Think I have heard enough from Bachmann,

    I'm voting Tinklenberg.
