This is a personal project that would not have been possible without the support of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. Thanks to the entire team for their generous access during training exercises and patrols this Summer. Since the Service began in 1973, it has carried out more than 21,000 missions ranging from urgent patient transfers to dangerous search and rescue missions.

This film is 100% 'real', but there are some new techniques for me here, such as using time lapse to create the illusion of forward movement for the helicopter ocean scenes. These flight sequences would not be possible without the skill and patience of Chief Pilot Peter Yates. Thanks also to Trevor Cracknell (for getting wet!) and Family.

  • This should have been with footage of crime, illness and war just to show the irony in displaying the world as a tiny unharmful landscape

  • Aw, it was so cute. My dad showed me to this, and said, "Look how real these miniatures look!" When it loaded, me, being the photography buff I am, said, "Dad, it's from a tilt-shift lens. It's all real." "But the water.." "It's a time lapse." "Aw, that ruined the magic for me."

Maybe you should read the description before you comment. Just a thought.

  • This is AWESOME!

  • @xINVISIGOTHx Are you stupid? Read the goddamn description before you post ignorant comments.

  • @thepeterson Yup

@xINVISIGOTHx Simply filming a training exercise

  • I don't think it's cool to have a guy fall in the water to force emergency people to come just for a youtube video (unless this was previously set up by the photographer and the helicopter pilot was paid to do this). I dont see how this could have been an "accident" with the guy filming the guy as he falls into the water and then oh-so-conveniently has his camera set up where the helicopter takes off from, and has another good camera set-up to film the copter as it flies over the water.

  • is this a tilt shift camera?

  • Absolutely amazing :)

  • just wondering is there any video like this on the restoration of Japan from recent tsunami. that will be so insightful.

  • made with tilt shift objective
