sorry, but no one will ever call it the willis tower. wasting your money!
-
Sears couldn't afford the lease their floors at the building. The only bought the naming rights and a couple of floors then moved to I believe Hofman Estates in the western outskirts of Chicagoland.
-
so why did sears move out?
-
errrrrrr okay?......... but who had the biggest empire EVER!
-
It's not that they own the most space, but they made a deal to move their offices into the sears tower. As part of that deal, they were given the right to put their name on it.
-
Anyone who owns most of the sq. ft. of it gets to have rights to the building's name.

Us Americans have you English and half the world under our palms. No, I don't hate you. No, I don't think you're idiots. In fact, I like the English. But America is the super power of the world, regardless of our current problems. WE pay YOU to build US things, as well as other countries like China. We give you money because we can afford it (for the most part...). GOD, SAVE THE QUEEN!!!

Id rather they call it
"the sears tower, presented by the willis group"
that way the neam can remain and they can get their publicity too
-
That is a good idea - switching insurance companies, that is.
Interestingly, "Big Ben" isn't the name of the clock - it's the name of the bell in "St. Stephen's Tower". In the same way, I hope we'll all just keep calling it the "Sears Tower", even if Willis Group makes this horrific PR blunder and renames it.
-
I'm a loyalist too - but I also love Chicago. Just so you know the facts, the Willis Group did not buy the Sears Tower, they're only leasing three floors of the Sears Tower. And they paid absolutely nothing for naming writes - this is a crock.
this is disgusting. willis tower? um no. SEARS TOWER. please & thank you.

Everyone should now refer to it as the "Big Willie"... that might influence them into changing it back.
