Chinese Music Society "Resonance of Spring" Spring Concert on April 5, 2011, at Bodek Lounge, Houston Hall, University of Pennsylvania.

Original song by Kenji Kawai. Performed by CMS Chamber Orchestra. Music arranged by Ted Cheek.

In 1930s China, a humble martial arts master and local hero in Fo Shan Province finds his peaceful life overturned in the wake of the Japanese invasion. Wilson Yip's 2008 biopic Ip Man depicts the physical and moral conflict of the titular character when the Japanese forces capture his hometown and demand that he instruct the Japanese army in his unique style of kung fu. The film's soundtrack, composed by Kenji Kawai, was arranged by Ted Cheek into four parts for tonight's performance. From the stirring, evocative main theme "Maestro" to the somber strains of "Sinking", Ted's arrangement showcases the stark beauty and emotion of Ip Man's life story.
