The title says what it is. This is actually the first part of a longer version I have, but I'm having some editor's block and vibe problems with the last half. So I tried to just to put an end on this one so I could get it out here and get some feedback. I hope I work out the problems on the last half so that you can see that and the middle part too.

This video is a fair use of a copyrighted work, protected under section 107 of U.S. Copyright Law.

The shows I used are Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Dollhouse, Firefly(Well, Serenity :D), Alias, and Terminator the Sarah Connor Chronicles. The characters that are in it are Buffy Summers, Faith Lehane, Fred Burkle, Echo, November, River Tam, Sydney Bristow, and Cameron. These of course aren't the only characters I wanted to include, but they just worked with space and the availability of certain clips.

    Some great shows there.

What is the final scene (1.05) taken from? I thought it was possibly Underworld but thats a film not TV, Buffy perhaps?

    No Jessica Alba though?!?!

    Cheers

It's from Serenity, which is ironically, a movie. I felt justified in using it though, because it's an of adaption(of sorts) from the TV show Firefly.

On the Jessica Alba front, while her stuff is commendable, I'm not a Dark Angel fan. I enjoyed it when it was on, but it hasn't seemed to have age very well. Thus me not really thinking about it now. ;)

I don't think all the shots of girls undressing qualify as "strong" women characters

Well for one, they are not undressing. One is just lingerie and the other a bathing suit. And in neither clip, within the context of the scene was she ever planning to undress. Regardless of what she's wearing, Sydney Bristow is a strong female character. Also, who says strong can't be sexy and revealing. She got shit done, 24/7. Clothes or no clothes.

Being sexy and revealing induces objectification by men, which shifts the power structure, and removes any resemblance of being a "strong" woman when being subjugated to do only what a man expects and desires of them. Thats why.

Except that the power structure was never shifted. The objectifiction of her meant nothing because she didn't accept it and give into him and his desires.

did you never finish your longer version? i'd look forward to seeing it, especially if you used more women from more shows, not just the sci fi ones.

I love how Joss Whedon's strong female characters don't lose their femininity. I love female characters who can become the heroes, without having to be masculine: eg River fights in a dress etc. And Echo was a very interesting and complicated character - sometimes she was innocent, like a child, whereas in other circumstances, she fully understood and used her sexual power.
