I think one of the major things this song is having a go at is conscription. Like he says, his number came up and he was only 19. Sends chills through me every time I listen.

I'm guessing it reminds him of the "choppers that he had been in and out of for months"

This song makes me so sad. Not only because of the situation but i too, have a family member who is currently in cadets and is set on his way to joining the army, i mean god damn it, hes only 16! I hope he realizes it's the worst decision he'll ever make. R.I.P all have died and all that are to come, it is the sad truth that the wars will never end. Peace out and enjoy your life while you can!

Schumann FINALLY got to play this to troops in East Timor today. Thank God.

Dad flew Hueys (Slicks and Gunships) in Vietnam. My family are totally, irrepairably screwed from it. Of 3 kids, 2 suicide attempts and 3 drug addicts. None of us have married or have kids. (All over 35yo) I personally have 17 of 20 PTSS symptoms; I have never seen combat. All learnt from Dad as a toddler.

The more people realize what war does to their lives, the less we will shove our people over there.
