Moving stuff is slower than pushing buttons, yes. But when did art become about efficiency?
If you're going to compare apples to oranges...
Tenori-on costs $1000+, and you're locked into the functionality provided.
Beatbearing is a DIY project you can build for $100 if you're resourceful. It's open source, and every part of it can be modified.
(Monome is a better comparison. Grid of buttons, open functionality... Still costly, though.)

The idea came from myself, but was influenced by the use of physical constraints in the Pico project (search for "James Patten Pico").
