Once you have a standardized design, the ram and hinges are easy and cheap to make, especially if you have lots of towers to raise and lower. For just one tower, yeah, just rent a crane, but if you have 50to raise and maintain, crane rental is expensive as hell. Numbers make things cheaper to build, and if they just used a single detachable ram for all the towers, it would DEFINETLY be cheaper than a week of crane rental.

There must be some SERIOUS stresses on those pins and fixings when that thing is on it's way up. Think of the amount of torque that thing is exerting on them little pins on the ram. I'm actually surprised it worked even once without shearing them pins, or ripping the bracket off the side. You must have some serious good welders on your jobs!
