The zurkhaneh (pronounced zoor-khoo-nay) is an ancient Iranian physical fitness tradition, literally meaning "house of strength." Warmups are led by the master, who stands in the center of the pit, while the morshed sings verses from the Shahnameh, banging a drum to keep the rhythm.
