2010/11 Premier's Awards Provincial Finalist and Regional Finalist - Vancouver Island

Category: Emerging Leader

Combining her vision for mentoring new public service employees with opportunities for public sector support of the tourism industry, Colleen McCormick recognizes the benefits of building strong teams for achieving project success.

As ministry lead on the Greening the Border project, the focus of which was curbing idling at the Peace Arch border crossing, Colleen helped secure cross-jurisdictional cooperation with the State of Washington, Canadian Border Services Agency and Tourism Surrey. Colleen also initiated and led the Tourism Strategy and Policy Branch in creating a team charter to increase employee satisfaction, and organized business hosting events during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Recognizing her creativity in promoting new leadership models, Colleen was asked to appear before a caucus committee on Social Innovation/Enterprise and Volunteerism. Her presentation was so well received her input became a foundational piece of the committee's report.
