I just listened to his 8th string quartet and had to come listen to this immediately afterwards, just so I wouldn't take my own life.

Don't personally like the 2nd more sober half of this part. It feels like a brake on the whole composition. Still the whole technical aspect is amazing.

He must've really like xylophone. :D Great stuff.
My challenge to all you listeners: is THIS Shostakovich, or were his Symphonies Shostakovich? Or... is it both? I think this is a tremendously different style than his symphonies. Can they possibly be "compatible," that is to say, were they both composed sincerely?

@mihailghiga I agree and disagree. I mean, you can't base whether a song isn't jazz and is jazz based on if it has improvisation or not. Improv is a huge part of jazz, but doesn't define it. You know what I mean?

Es increible este genio, no se como le permitian el uso de trompetas en la URRSS por ser un instrumento capitalista.

It's a classical composer pastiche of a 30sh years jazz styles. The artificial separation through genres and styles is just a XIX-XX century idea, real music transcends classification and theory. It is NOT jazz because has not improvisation. It IS jazz because was written for a jazz variety orchestra and uses some instruments. What IS important though is that it is a lovely piece of music.

His music is refreshingly different. He's becoming my favourite composer.
