by any chance do you read Japanese, because I am really having a hard time getting memories for my idols in the game, which is the key to winning a audition. Do you have any tips by any chance you could give me?

Absolutely. You have to press the button when the circle icon is flashing fully to get the extra bonus points. The icons flash in sync with the beat of the song.
If you're finding it difficult to get the timing right, and you're playing this game on a HDTV, it maybe that your HDTV (LCDs or plasmas) suffer from input lag. If it's a Samsung TV, turn on Game Mode. For other brands, I dunno, look for something related to image post-processing to turn off - makes the game looks less vibrant.

I noticed in this video you're appealing when the appeal icons are blinking (expanding), as well as when they're not. Does it matter whether they're flashing fully or non-fully to get extra bonus points?

Okay, it seems like I've made a mistake.
The popularity order of the three categories is announced to you by your boss at the beginning of the week.
However, there are a lot of special auditions that have their own popularity order. If you can read Japanese, this is made known to you the moment you apply for the audition.
If you can't, don't worry so much. Just before the first phase of the audition they'll tell you which category will award 5 stars, etc.
