Romanian Air Pride - I. A. R. 80 Braşov

IAR 80 era in anul 1940 al 4-lea avion de vanatoare din lume ca performante.Construit la Brasov,acesta a fost primul avion de vanatoare 100% romanesc proiectat vreodata si a servit cu succes Fortele Aeriene Romane in timpul celui de-al Doilea Razboi Mondial.
De mentionat faptul ca escadrilele de IAR-80 au fost primele efective ale Armatei care au intrat in lupta pentru eliberarea Basarabiei.

I understand what you mean.... but as a front pilot I also would be glad to accept my command for returning from the front lines to a job behind them - or at home - for the rest of the war. Sure I will do my duty and my best for my country - but a war is no video game and makes sure no fun! I think it is normal that the wish to survive the war is much bigger than the wish to become a fighter ace. This will confirmed by the most of all real fighter aces in all wars. ;o)

Very true what you say. It's a normal instinct to try and survive. But, there's always an exception. In Romania's case, we have Bâzu Cantacuzino, top ace, who fighted in the entire war even though he was of nobil origin. The guy was a prince. It was he's choice to fly and fight. Don't want to start an arguement, but in my opinion, a flymen's desiree to be the best should beat the instinct to survive. Sure, it's easy for me to say this.

anyway during ww2, our best RO pilots like Constantin Cantacuzino where flying on german BF Me 109, but there you go.. a romanian piece of Engineering IAR 80
