Just a video demonstrating an average night of BF3 for me in it's current state. Bad Company 2 had huge issues with it's netcode for a long time, until there were a couple of patches that actually started making it playable; I'd imagine these changes made it over to the new Frostbite engine so I don't have my hopes up for any improvements.

For better explanations of all the goings on, see my reddit comment here:

  • @bluesatin Oh and fyi, headshots are quite lethal. 10:25 is two headshots.

Supposedly this game doesn't have random number generation involved with the damage numbers, so if 2 bullets hit me they should have done the same damage if they were both headshots; 41% damage and then over 59% is not the same amount, so one was a chest shot. The M4A1 has a maximum damage of 25, a headshot is double damage of 50 at point blank; note that the guy wasn't point blank.

Some people just get the advantage of more damage currently, it needs fixing.

  • @bluesatin Well range matters. As you mentioned. Usually the way damage dropoff is handled is by setting a range where the bullet deals less damage. It's usually not scaling downwards smoothly.

Also, I have had some really bad experiences with some ISP's. The connections can be inconsistent. But if it happens as frequently as it seems either you should notice shit outside of BF3 or you're probably right and it's BF3 specific.

No idea why DICE mess up netcode. Been an issue since 1942.

Thanks for being understanding, it's extremely frustrating for such a great game to just be unplayable for me in infantry combat. Most of the community just say 'u suck' or 'stop whining' when there are clearly problems for some people that put them at a severe disadvantage.

On the bright side, my BF3 was running strangely and was actually registering properly for a little bit yesterday; animations were playing turbo fast, the death hand animation particularly.

  • @bluesatin You sure it's not your internet connection? Because all of those issues with bullets not doing damage and dealing ~70 damage in 1 hit seems like a packet getting dropped so you don't get to know what damage has been dealt.

Or when the bullets don't deal damage the server never gets to know you shot him.

  • @SnoweyMan111

I don't suffer from packet loss, I'm the only PC running on my connection while playing and when the above video was made I was on local British servers with a ping of around 20ms. A quick test on PingTest gives me a 17ms ping with 3ms jitter, it might hop up a little to around 30-40ms at peak time, but that shouldn't make it as game breaking as what I suffer from while playing.
