He may come across as odd to some, but having been a stage, tv and film actor myself - I can say that more often than not - most actors are on the shy side of the spectrum. I think he's shy, a bit uncomfortable - and that comes across to some as 'odd' or 'strange' -- as some have commented here.

Another film that is criminally overlooked and underrated, that stars Russell Crowe as well, is Cinderella Man. He did an incredible job in this picture too.
