The historical parts were mainly taken out of the text except for a few hints. This was done in the abridgement the prophet Mormon made of the plates over a century ago.

We don't know beyond a shadow of a doubt either way, if the Savior visited the American continents, but until we find solid evidence that the same Jesus who walked the dusty roads of Palestine visited our nation, we do not have ample reason to believe he did. If the testimony of the BOM is true on a historical level, it requires more than just a feeling from the Spirit, it also means we will find independent, historical evidence to back up one of the greatest events in history..
