"the euro...is the one currency used throughout most of the continent"...well, not really, if you take most to mean "the majority of land mass". Russia + everything behind the former iron curtain + Scandinavia (excluding Denmark) + Switzerland do not use the Euro. Thank God.

It's really important for people to know that your PIN on your ATM card can only have 4 digits in Europe! And that you need to memorize the corresponding numbers, since there are no letters on European ATMs. Rick really helped me out by telling me about that. Also, that you shouldn't carry travelers' checks anymore; they are hard to cash in Europe, and it's always more expensive than whatever small charge there is for an international ATM withdrawal.
