"4QuarterSet" Demo - Chanter Multitrack Example

"4QuarterSet" is an iPhone/iPod Touch app that emulates the three drones and three regulators of a full set of Uilleann pipes in the key of D, C#, C, or B.

For this demonstration, I first recorded myself playing "The Sporting Pitchfork" with my Benedict Koehler concert pitch chanter, then overdubbed drones and regulators using "4QuarterSet" for the iPhone/iPod Touch. Added a little low end boost EQ and reverb in mixdown.

4QuarterSet is currently available on the iTunes App Store.

Bryan198026, yes, the chanter is the part that the melody is played on. Often times on movies, they just record the chanter alone. There is a valve switch on the stock that turns the drones on and off.

This particular instrument has fascinated me for years. I wonder if it's possible to play with just the chanter. If I'm not mistaken that's the part that produces the actual melody and then the droans are what produce that deep resonating tone. Or maybe it's just because often on film soundtracks that feature these pipes the accompanying instruments seem to cover up the sound of the droan.

Eskine has done one of the most innovative, unique and fun apps for the iphone so far. Not only making it possible for owners of half sets to give the regulator world a try at a affordable price but also for ease of use. Only thing i wish for is a minor key option on the drone side, i e E minor, maybe individual key alternatives for regs and drones would do the trick
