Part 2: Rick O'Barry on saving dolphins and The Cove

In the 60s, the TV hit Flipper made us all fall in love with dolphins. Rick O'Barry is the man who trained the dolphins to do the tricks that were so endearing — and that spawned a whole industry of sea worlds and marine worlds and flipperworlds around the globe, committing dolphins to a lifelong sentence of enslavement and humiliation, all in the name of our entertainment.

These days Rick O'Barry feels sickeningly guilty about that, and has spent decades since dedicated to freeing dolphins. That mission has seen him arrested all around the world, thrown into jail, banned from conferences and other venues.

But it has also seen him expose the most horrendous and senseless massacre of dolphins, an annual slaughter of 23,000 dolphins that takes place for several months every year in a tiny cove near a town called Taji in Japan.

We can take action on "Help Save Japan's Dolphins

Dear [Decision Maker]

I ask that you urge the Japanese government to revoke permits that allow Japan's Fisheries Agency to continue this heinous, dangerous and illegal practice.

I also urge American leadership to ensure that the International Whaling Commission includes the proper management of dolphins and porpoises and a comprehensive plan to stop the slaughter of dolphins in Japan.

Your immediate action is needed.

dolphins were slaughtered simply because the people were told "dolphins are eating so much of the fish in sea their is little for people" so dolphins are treated as pests to be slaughtered.  The real TRUTH is over 50 nuclear power plants strategicly placed all around Japan leaching RADIOACTIVE water into the sea daily killing all kinds of MARINE life & poisoning the remaining(fish food supply). @skynsidhawaii A crow saved my life one night when I was camping out in a forest in New Mexico. It flew above my tent in a lightening storm and kept squawking and I finally figured out that it was saying, "GET OUT!". I ran out and jumped into my car. I looked back and watched the branch above my tent get struck by lightening, landing on top of my tent and catching it on fire. My tent was burned to a crisp within seconds as I watched the crow fly by me swiftly as the wind carried rain. . .

what is amazing to me is that, our self-devouring culture, the american culture that has taken over the world, ONLY NOW is beginning to realise, wait a minute, maybe our resources are not eternal. wow, we need to replace what we eat or the earth will be a desert. thousands of years ago native americans lived in harmony with nature and they KNEW that ressources are finite and that HUMANS are SUBJECTS of the earth not masters of it. a culture that DUMB is doomed to extinction.

THE COVE IS A DISGRACE. IT FUELS RACISM BY EXCLUDING OTHER COUNTRIES KILLING DOLPHINS WHILE FOCUSING ON A GROUP OF PPL OR A COUNTRY.. JAPAN. THIS COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN ELIMINATED BY ALSO INCUDING OTHER COUNTRIES KILLING DOLPHINS IN A FILM ABOUT DOLPHIN KILLING.

It's about animal rights isnt it? smart or dumb, they should all have equal rights. how many animals (from rats to monkeys) do we kill for profits and research? Don't forget the massive number of dogs and cats we kill everyday because we can't take care of them.how about the animals we hunt for kill joy? if this is how we treat our animals, who r we to tell others what to do? @chrysan6128 In japan, they had a show where they found out that possibly crows have a higher intelligence than dolphins. There was a case where a crow learned to speak words just like parrots do. The crow said, "konichiwa", barked like a dog, and even coughed like a normal person. The crow saw a kid use a slide, and later immitated the kid. It even fished out a snack from a cup by getting a wire and bending it
