A polarizing figure who dominated American politics in the 1820s and 1830s, his political ambition combined with widening political participation, shaping the modern Democratic Party. His legacy is now seen as mixed, as a protector of popular democracy and individual liberty, checkered by his support for Indian removal and slavery. Renowned for his toughness, he was nicknamed Old Hickory." As he based his career in developing Tennessee, Jackson was the first president primarily associated with the American frontier.

  • GB never wished to regain her former colonies, only to defeat Boney and secure Canada (both goals achieved.)

This is just another crappy production from the oft abysmal "history" channel.

  • @SALZTHEBEST history is written by the victors. if you win, genocide is collateral damage. if you lose, its a war crime.

  • @Graham6762 the gold standard contributed to ww1. given that gold was limited, whenever it was found, there would be intense competition for it. as having more gold meant a more flexibile monetary policy, imperialism was the dominant tool for foreign policy. britain only took an interest in south africa after gold was found there in 1895, leading to the boer wars.

  • History propaganda

  • @Graham6762 i came up with the conclusion that the elite "allowed" the london summer 2011 riots to happen; to spread corruption and make more money. i cant see why an ex global superpower and a country with one of the largest militaries in the world has such a soft touch police force. the media has a large role to play in this too. we are all pawns in a game run by the crooked rich, hell bent on causing division and mayhem in society.

  • @farooqmm1987 Yeah they could still try gold and silver, or other forms of minerals. Anything but paper money which can be manipulated by the elite for corruption and expansion of bureaucracies.

  • @Graham6762 yup. im from the UK and i've got a series 1996 $50 bill in my hand right now, even it feels and looks cheap; like monopoly money; at least they could have made an effort to make the note look what its meant to be worth. with global prices for food and other necessities on the increase, and banks able to change the value of money at their own will, we need more andrew jackson type leaders to sort the bankers and puppet politicians out once and for all.

  • @farooqmm1987 Yeah it is too bad we can't go back to the Gold standard because all the gold has been stolen. Fort Knox is empty.

  • @Graham6762 so true. the gold standard was better.

  • Paper money is incredibly stupid
