Big crazy war where the axis and the Soviets all had real F.U. leaders all at the same time.

I remember seeing part of "The Final Chapter" when it first aired(I think I was probably 8 or 9 years old). I remember the scene where Aaron Jastrow is killed in the gas chamber(I was too young to understand the meaning of what was happening.). I have this mini series on DVD now.

@BenAliGtor, very well put. The entire mini-series including The Winds of War and the followup, War and Remembrance were very well written in a manner that a World War II novice could glean enough actual history from the background of the story to have some understanding of the war. Similar novels of history include Jeff Shaara's historical novels Rise to Rebellion and The Glorious Cause. Another mini-series was John Jakes North and South based on his novels.

Pug Henry and his family were a bit like Forrest Gump in that every possible historically significant event of the war seemed to include them in some way. All that said- Herman Wouk did a very credible job in getting his facts correct and spared the reader the melodrama that many other writers would have gleefully wallowed in. The television mini-series were both as well done as one could expect- but Wouk's writing is really the best way to enjoy the experience.

As far as I know you can still only get these series on Region 1 DVD which are no good in Europe,it's a pain as I would love to watch this series again.....much better than the rubbish we get served up these days on tv in the UK.

It was very well done

I spend most of my time crying infront of YouTube because of the memories I get to enjoy. This has a special meaning for me because a dear friend Bill Schallert performed in this. God Bless
