The only one that surprises me on the list is Alaska, but i'm surprised by what wasn't on the list. I was expecting Taxes to be on the most religious map, and California, Washington, and Organ to be on the most non religious map.

no Alaska is red but it's rather different there. I use to live there everyone votes republican but there legislation is very liberal. Consider this there are no income taxes the government taxes the oil companies and they give free health care to all natives and they get 1-3k oil dividends to all of the Alaska people. They had pot legal for awhile.

strong libertarian leanings up there and with the exception of some truly wacko republicans that have wandered out of the reservation we tend to be secular.

Surprised me too, definitely after the media's Sarah Palin phase.

Polls like this would make sense if somehow religion was contained within state boundaries. Otherwise it's just sort of interesting.
It's not news that New England is not religious, but what is news that Alaska is 51% religious and it is the reddest of the Red States.

I live in South Carolina and I'm an atheist. It's not surprising at all that the poor states in the South are the most religious. It also isn't surprising that Vermont is the least religious state- it's also the richest.
