She is NOT a bhikkhuni. Bhikkhunis were nuns in the Theravada tradition (India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Burma, Laos, and Cambodia) and do not exist anymore. If she was Theravadin, she'd be guilty of one of the GRAVEST offenses according to the Vinaya which PROHIBITS causing a SCHISM, division, or creating disharmony and dischord within the Sangha.

I'd bet this is the real reason the Dalai Lama encourages westerners not to convert and to find the universal truth in the religion they were brought up in!

The Dalai Lama has never claimed to be a spiritual leader. He has claimed to be a simple monk. If people listen to his words and actions they can make their own decisions on who he is. I believe as a simple human being he shows compassion, humor and honesty. He has never asked anyone to follow him. That was decided when he was chosen as a very young boy by others. And a note to those who comment on fabrications fed to them by a society that controls them like sheep. Wake up, join the world!
