It's it great that anything artistic nowadays is instantly labeled with the negative connotation of "hipster?" This music has a feeling, and I think the video captures that quite well. Stop being so small minded, judgmental, and closed-off to art and music. The only person you fuck over by doing that is you.

The particular and arbitrary notions that are popular at the moment centre around the idea of being 'alternative'. It is visible today in choice of music, fashion, blogs etc. The term hipster is simply applied, when one condemns another for using these culturally ascribed and therefore fraudulent versions of authenticity. Essentially authenticity is expressed in the same way by everyone and the conformity that they seeked to escape has been arrived at once again via a circuitous route.

Your theory that human experience is characterised by a struggle for true self expression (authenticity), and that to do this often entails the denigrating of another's authenticity in order to assert ones own, is not entirely baseless. The term 'hipster' is not altogether meaningless. The term is applied when one person recognises that another person is fraudulently expressing specific and fixed notions that denote an arbitrary packaged version of authenticity.

“Hipster” is a term co-opted for use as a meaningless pejorative in order to vaguely call someone else’s authenticity into question and, by extension, claim authenticity for yourself.

It serves no conversational function and imparts no information, save for indicating the opinions and preferences of the speaker.
