If you're interested in feats of strength like tearing phonebooks or decks of cards, you must have strong wrists. Plate curls are one of the best exercises you can do to strength your wrists and the connective tissue in the wrists and forearms.

  • I've actually not done these sitting down. I do a variation while seating for pinch grip and phonebook tearing, though. You pinch a big heavy plate with the thumb pads and fingers, put your elbows out just above your knees, and curl it up and down between your legs, if that makes sense. It's what Dennis Rogers recommends.
