The St. Louis County medical examiner says it's unclear whether there were enough remains for a dental identification. (July 22)[Notes:ANCHOR VOICE] Saint Louis County officials say charred remains have been discovered in this burned out home.And they may belong to a man who killed a rookie firefighter in a bizzare standoff with emergency response workers.Early Monday morning...firefighters came to this suburban St. Louis community to put out the blaze burning in this truck.They were met with gunfire. A man inside one of the houses started shooting from his window.Andy Hammert was gunned down when he jumped off the fire engine. 2 police officers were also shot-- one of them is remains in the hospital; the other was treated and released.The brick bungalow eventually burned to the ground, but no one was ever seen leaving it.Neighbors describe the alleged gunman as a recluse, but they say they have no idea why he opened fire. Police say they aren't sure either.As investigators try to determine a motive for the deadly incident, the medical examiner's office will work on identifying the remains left in the rubble.It's still unclear whether they have enough to match against dental records.
