  • This is one of my favorite Christmas songs. I think it sucks that YouTube! won't allow versions on that actually have quality sound. Nice try though! Thanks for the post!! Merry Christmas!!!

  • The lack of quality in sound is because its on the computer so its an mp3 version aka - digital...

  • That looks like a 1970's B.S.R. turntable. Am I right ?

They were really quite good for the price , particularly because of the better quality of the magnetic cartridge which by that time had superseded the earlier and inferior crystal or ceramic cartridges.

  • Its actually a 1999 AIWA turntable. But I do agree about the lack of quality stylus. Also there isnt any tracking weight device- so sometimes skips where on older turntables it wouldn't. But it was okay for the money.

  • I've switched over to CDs mostly, but I never could completely give up the records. My 7 year old likes to listen to them with me and watch them spin. Also, everyone who grew up with CDs and mp3s didn't get the chance to listen to all their 33's at 45! Now there's some priceless childhood memories!

This is actually one of the few of Elton's songs I don't own a vinyl copy of.

  • i love that song!!!

  • As someone who has been brought up in the age of CDs I tend to thiunk of turntables as the ones on railways to turn engines round.

  • Thanks so much for this. It is probably my favorite Christmas song. It makes me feel good every christmas season. I dance to it and sing to it. It is great.

  • Yes; and thanks ! "AIWA" - that's a name I had almost forgatten about. In years gone by it was easy to confuse "AIWA" with "AKAI". Are either firm still in business ?

It's interesting how in in the earliest days of electric sound reproduction heavy magnetic pickups were the thing for the old 78's. Along came crystal/ceramic/piezo-electric cartridges. Wonderful - for a while until their problems began to show.

I still say you can't beat analogue and valve amps. Ah bliss !
