I've been practicing quite a bit and have been playing for almost a month now, so I can't use that as an excuse for sucking anymore. I think I'm getting better. Comments?

  • the song is in C#. are you playing in C

  • I got the music directly from the EJ songbook, and it's in G.

  • Not bad at all... Hard song to sing isn't it? :P but why why why don't you use the piano in the background in stead of that sad keyboard? just wondering...

  • Thanks for the compliment, and yes it is tough to sing. The piano tuner is coming tonight, so as for now it's so badly out of tune that it's painful to listen to. Believe me I hate that "sad keyboard". I hope to put it away for good soon. :P

  • lol extremely simplistic version for piano. But im not here just to criticize the authenticity of ur music but to share a few suggestions; make sure ur solid on ur lyrics & dont hold back when u sing....go for the high notes bro...ur stuck in one octave of lowness & trying to cover it w/ high cords doesn't float the boat. keep working hard & once u learn the easy stuff go for the hard versions w/ the 4 note cords etc. hope that helps

  • Publisher Hal-Leonard has this in their book titled "The Elton John Keyboard Book" (ISBN 0-7935-1478-9), as an exact arrangement of the original version in A-flat. This book is intended to be a reasonably accurate exact duplication of the notes Elton actually plays in all the songs in this book. I recommend it. Look it up on Amazon.. yellow cover, Elton wearing a "top hat" in the center picture (so you'll know it's the right book). Check out my own Elton covers. I'll be doing this song too =)

  • Elton originally did this (on Cap't Fantastic) in Ab (A-flat)... first chord is Ab in the right hand over Eb octave in the bass (left hand). However, because it's easier for the "beginner to average" player, many books do an arrangement of this song in the key of G, since that's close to Ab. For the first notes of the song, that would be a G-chord in the right hand, and D-octaves in the left hand. Elton often does this song now in the key of F, since his voice is lower post-surgery. There ya go!

  • find me a songbook that's correct. i stopped using sheet music in 1992.

  • Great Song One Of My Favorites can you tell me how to play this song please.

    Your # 1

  • Then the songbook is wrong. The first chord is a flat on the RH/ e flat on the LH. And you have a perfectly good real piano behind you with 88 keys, why not use that.

  • Thats acually really good

  • Dude... you should try the high notes! You sound great when you sing "sugar bear"! The higher notes sound sexier than the lower ones by the way. Warming up your voice and practicing can definitely help with those high notes...but good job. Love this song!

  • think before you post! it is of course "sugar bear" - end of discussion

  • great!

    congratulations!
