The University of Alberta's Olympic Commercial

This 30-second commercial for the University of Alberta was broadcast on CBC-TV and CBC Newsworld during the 2006 Winter Olympics. The commercial is hosted by playwright Vern Thiessen, winner of the 2003 Governor General's Literary Award. A former instructor in the U of A Department of Drama and a graduate of the U of A's M.FA. program in playwriting, Thiessen is currently Artistic Associate with the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton.

Others featured in the commercial include: Golden Bear Ben Thompson, the overtime hero in the 2005 CIS University Cup; Pandas volleyball player (in huddle) Christy Torgerson, MVP of the 1999 - 2000 CIS Championship; Doctoral student Kenneth Chau, recipient of the 2005 NSERC André Hamer Postgraduate Prize, worth $10,000. Chau studies the nature of light and its interaction with materials on the micro-scale; 3M Teaching Fellow Dr. Anne Naeth of the Department of Renewable Resources; 3M Teaching Fellow Dr. Andy Liu of the Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences.
