I thought I'd document 35mm projection before things go digital.

  • That looks like a fairly recent installation. It's sad that, with the studios hellbent on getting rid of 35mm film as a presentation medium and most theatres now contractually obligated to junk their 35mm equipment when they go digital, all that perfectly good equipment will be destined for the scrapyard. Quite a depressing death sentence for a 100-plus-year-old workhorse of a format.

  • @arclamp amen brother.

  • I used to work for Famous Players from 2002-2004. I became a projectionist in early '04 and held that position until the end of that year (I was 20 when I left.) It's good seeing this video in 2011 to know that some cinemas still show films this way. This video reminds me of my time working in the booth and how much I loved it. I'm a cinema lover and I still consider it to be one of the best jobs I had in my lifetime. It saddens me to know that things are rapidly changing over to digital.

  • @najix :) it's a great job and yeah many many theaters are going to digital right this year and last year I assume. I work at an AMC theater and my particular one, right now is 10 digital projectors and 10 35mm. So it's quite interesting to see the transition. Fortunately, projectionists still need to be around to operate the "computers" and "ingest" content.

But one day our theater will be all automatic and on a schedule but someone will still need to verify it goes on screen, etc. etc.

  • @najix Anyways, thanks for the comment, glad you liked the video :)

  • so is this job easy or you you have to do alot stuff?

  • @autococker12 it's mostly easy but when shit hits the fan, shit hits the fan

  • @CushFilez You don't notice it after a while. I do reading and homework in the booth all the time.

  • Your top loop is so small. I like mine a tad bit bigger:)

  • FIlm better. Case closed.

  • glad to see that people are still using film because film will always be better than digital.
