Bush Out! - Dr Daud Abdullah addressing the Protesters in London

More than a thousand police blockaded whitehall and brutally foiled any attempt to voice peaceful protest outside Downing Street on Sunday 15 June 2008.

Thousands of protesters gathered in Parliament Square to protest against the visit of Bush on his so-called 'farewell tour" of Europe.

Video document of demonstration: Dr Daud Abdullah was one of the speakers to address the large crowds against George Bush's visit to the UK, his war policies, and against the British government's continuing support for the US wars.

The protest, organised by the Stop the War Coalition was banned from marching down Whitehall.

Islamic scholar, Dr Daud Abdullah is a university lecturer and commentator on Palestinian affairs and Islamic Studies in the British and Arab media.

He is Director of Middle East Monitor, (MEMO). He has been senior researcher at the London-based Palestinian Return Centre and editor of the Return Review, which has recently been replaced with the Journal of Palestinian Refugees Studies. He has been a regular contributor to Impact International and the Palestine Times.

Dr Abdullah has written and translated several works on Islam. He earned his first degree from the University of Guyana in 1981 and was awarded a scholarship to study Arabic language at King Saud University in Saudi Arabia. In 1984 he joined the University of Khartoum, Sudan to pursue postgraduate studies and was awarded his doctorate in 1989. His last posting in Saudi Arabia was as editor and translator at the Abul Qasim Publishing House in Jeddah.
