i doubt that tugging on the elephants ear for a moment to signal turning actually hurts them. its probably more like someone picking up your arm and pointing it for you. i dont think that anyone could really force the elephants to do anything they didnt want to do. they are huge and can easily overpower the people around there. they are docile creatures but if it really didnt wanna get wet(which they love to do) then no human is gonna muscle the elephant into the water.

yes sure because training that elephant was really as easy as pulling its ear. the stick in the mans hand actually has a nail or something sharp on it which gets smashed into the elephanrs skull. i am not an animal rights person but i went to thailand and had an elephant ride and witnessed how they train these animals. i dont think seeing elephants with blood and hearing the nail being smashed into its head was worth it to sit on the animals back.
