It's pulling to many amps,This is about 16 feet of 5/16 cable It rides under the hood of my 89 honda accord it agverages 32 miles to the gallon for more info http://myhhocar.com/
I used to make some commercial fishing equipment using 3/8 to 3/16 type 304 ss. You wuoldn't beleive the fishermen who did not understand that ss is made od steel, nickel and chromium and that the three of them together in an electrlytic solution - salt water - makes a wicked battery. I used to have some 1/4 ss a fisherman had given me. It looked perfect on the inside and completely honey-combed on the inside. You need anodes on ss going into saltwater.
use less electrolytes smaller guage wire or just only one strand for each electrode and it will use less amps common rule of electrical engineering the water4gas version of that uses those principles well they also use 2 different kinds of stainless steel wire to because of there electrical propertys twoard positive and negative
Please...no offense, but WHY are you using a glass container? When the contacts corrode over time and a spark ignites the gas, you will have a very efficient grenade with shards of glass as shrapnal to rob the eyesite of your family and friends..'nuf said.
with the type of device you are working with, the simplest thing to do would be to make 4 of them, wire them up in series, and hit the group with 12v. The voltage will be dropped across each so that each individual device sees about 3v. This is a common configuration.
"about 1.5-3 volts to split water in brute force electrolysis. At these voltages, amps are your friend as more amps = more gas."
What is a low cost source for a rig that delivers low volts and high amps? I know a lot of tubers are using the power supply from a PC for 5 volts, but I assume the amps are really low too. Any good suggestions please?
@ewmegoolies A toaster might work.

look like you just shoved a bunch of wire in a container

Looks like you are getting a lot of HHO genesis there. Did you get any rust from the steel?
I used stainless steel screws, just to see how it would work. The electrolysis actually formed iron oxide (rust).

Here is an analysis on how HHO system can be useful.
