A suberb hike to the summit of St Mary Peak, the highest mountain in the Flinders Ranges. Located on the NE wall of Wilpena Pound, the track takes us from the beautiful creek beds in native pine forest, up to the rim of the pound via Tanderra saddle, then the final scramble to the top of the peak, commanding some of the most spectacular views in Australia.

I did this exact same hike in 1979 on a school camp with about 60 other boys - still hard to believe nobody slipped (or got pushed) and fell off that bloody ledge on the way up St Mary :) One kid got 'stuck' halfway along it and took ten mins of coaxing before he managed to move along around the corner. Walking back through the Pound was no fun along that rocky path either (blister time!) Great scenery though.

@jppiano1 It's definately one of the best hikes in Australia mate. And the views are even more rewarding knowing you have to put a bit of effort into the climb :)

WOW! Great footage, commentary and even music. Brought back many memories, did this hike in 2002 with my dad, one of the best things I've ever experienced. But watching this, I have no idea how I got up there! :) So worth it at the top. Thanks for posting this.
