A lot of you guys are getting the story of how Helio Gracie lost to Kimura confused.. it's actually very simple and direct.. Kimura broke Helio's shoulder/arm with (wouldn't you know it) a Kimura, hence the origin of the name of the move.. Helio refused to tap so Kimura broke it, and after seeing Helio's heart and determination he decided to break the Japanese code and teach a "foreigner" the art of Judo, but since Helio was so small some of the moves where too hard for him to do, so he made BJJ

even helio addmited he passed out by kimura's choke, but he passed out with his eyes open, so kimura released his grip, thinking not effective and helio regained consciousness. That was what i meant with choke :)

And i'm shure it wasnt 30 pounds, more like 20 if you must.

Thirty pounds is the best estimate. I'll defend that with science if you like.

The fact is that Helio Gracie, in his late thrities, having never studied Judo in Japan and with a thirty pound weight disadvantage, lasted 13 minutes against the greatest competitive Judoka that ever lived. Very few competitors had lasted this long with the man and this is regardless of what else you have to say, quite the accomplishment.
