This year's Behobia-San Sebastián road race, which took place on November 14th, attracted the largest number of competitors in the race's 47 year history.

Over 20,000 runners gathered eagerly on the starting line ready to tackle the demanding 20 kilometer race which has become a landmark in competitive popular athletics, famous for its mix of challenging sectors ranging from flat and downhill to leg breaking uphill climbs.

But the route, the party atmosphere, the thousands of running enthusiasts and supporter's all riding trains and buses to the starting line at the French border, crowds of onlookers lining the route and a spectacular finishing line on San Sebastian Boulevard, all combine to make this event one of the sporting highlights of the year.

SALTO were proud to be one of the race sponsors, with funds raised going to a sporting initiative in Ethiopia --The Wukro Project-- which aims to promote opportunities for young people to participate in athletics. One of our biggest goals is to assist with a diverse range of projects in Wukro (Ethiopia) where, together with approval and cooperation of the Wukro Sport Development Project (WSDP), we can help the Wukro population to develop in several areas including health, agriculture and sports.

"Social responsibility is an integral part SALTO Systems" says Marc Handels Vice President of Global Marketing. " We focus our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) on four main pillars which are the environment, society, customers, and people. Through these, as well as a range of other sustainable social initiatives like our free2move.org project supporting handicapped people, we want to communicate our commitment to supporting social development, to create opportunities and to encourage growth and inspiration."
So to help this project become a reality, SALTO is sending sports equipment, educational and health products to the region, where the Wukro Etipopia- Utopia foundation will then take over responsibility for distributing it to their people.

Althletes from the Wukro region who came to San Sebastian to participate in this year's race, and who took time out to visit the SALTO Systems manufacturing facility and meet with employees, expressed their thanks for all the help the company has given and continues to give to the people of their region.

A spokesman said "We would like to say a big thank you for all the help you've given our region during 2011. We cannot repay you enough. We can't even tell you what we felt like when we managed to finish this amazing Behobia San Sebastian race".
