  • Wonderful.........Peter sometimes created songs from borrowed Beatles melodies. For instance, Getting Better becomes Trick of the Tail.

  • @leirbagpeter Interesting observation, but I must point out that Peter did not write Trick of the Tail. that particular track was written and composed by Tony Banks.

  • ...But he still wrote the song.

  • Well, co-wrote. Mick Barnard (a brief member of Genesis) also had a hand in writing the tune.

  • Come on lads be open minded! Don't put music into categories...Just let it be free! You know music should have freedom.

  • And it could have the epic ending...

Perhaps even a bit of the guitar solo?

Oh man that would be just too much...

  • @leirbagpeter Getting Better sounds nothing like Trick of the Tail - besides which, Gabriel wasn't with Genesis when Trick of the Tail came out.

  • @LadyOneko Charterhouse was not a "classical music school". It's a regular British Public School (private school in North American terms). The founding members (Peter, Tony, Mike, and Anthony) all had some basic theory and rudimentary classical instruction, but only Tony seriously studied classical piano.

  • A think you guys also need to remember, The majority of the Genesis guys actually graduated from a classical music school, so of course they could write this level of stuff. The Beatles were 100% self taught and never learned how to read music, but they managed to constantly push the boundaries of what was "pop" back then. So what both bands did was just amazing, they were all genius. :)

  • That this song translates so easily to classical instruments just proves what I always knew. This is the best and most complete song ever written.

  • @chyrd Thx for the infos

  • @vectorfive because they couldn't... Genesis had a different crowd... they would come, shut up and listen to the music... the other issue the beatles had was they weren't proficient enough to pull off what they were doing in the studios...

  • @chyrd then why the beatles stopped playing live complaining they couldnt ear themselves play cuz ppl were shouting so loud?

  • @vectorfive The Beatles used onstage monitoring in 1965... so you are incorrect. BTW, I'm an audio engineer.
