@joncarolyn Yes that's because many koreans faced discrimination in Japanese owned businesses and corporations. So instead many chooses to either own their business or join a gang. This is quite common in various ethnics around the world who were discriminated against. Jews were similar examples and so were Italians.
Not all Zainichi support the North. 25% do. Those guys needed to be royally booted the fuck out of Japan. It's one thing to support Korean culture and ethnicity, its another thing to help Kim act like Satan and help him kidnap those Japanese citizens in the 1970s. I'm surprised Japan allows Chongryon to still run schools and businesses.
...accused of working for the Japanese during the war (if they were Korean coming back from Japan, Koreas were suspicious what their brains were thinking those years in Japan). Thus many Koreans risked gulags and persecution for suspected Japanese colaboration. ANYWAYS, I do side with this Zainichi guy when he says "HOLY shit Koreans, just get the nationality if you want to bitch about politics." You will always be Korean by blood. Just get Japanese nationality. Japan, although prejudice.....
Many Koreans couldn't return to Korea because if they didnt go within the 5 year time frame from 1945 to 1950, they would have to wait until the Korean war was over, and even after that, there were no jobs and shit in Korea. If you were originally from the North, many Koreans were wise to stay in Japan. They knew the dangers of those commies. Also, Kim Il Sung and Sgyman Rhee, the two dictators of North and South Korea respectively, both abhored Jap-sympthizers and many innocent Koreans were...
i find it intriguing how han chang woo reveals his life as an immigrant on japanese tv. I will point out tho when he talks about how Koreans moved to japan because of extreme poverty in korea after ww2 , it actually goes both ways in that korean ppl who were taken to japan by force during the colonial period had hopes to go back to korea after the war but couldn't because korea was devestated after ww2 and was considered a 3rd world country during the50's and 60's.
there is a lot "forced" word. i will tell you true history. japan forced working in the facilitys to all japanese residents durring war. there are korean too. because korean was japanese resident durring war. but by the militaly. forced korean worker was only 245. there was only 3,4 death by the accident only. and they got food more than general japanese worker. and all of them back to home after the war.

The translation was pretty horrible..
It is interesting to see what a yakuza boss looks like.
Even though he said they had to do cash work, it was usually gang related.
And even now a lot of the yakuza is filled with ethnic Koreans...

....anyways, Japanese can be prejudice like all of us sometimes, but if you want to complain, just get the nationality card.
