Enjoying a hot Saturday afternoon on the San Gabriel River Trail, when all hell breaks loose!

What went through my mind:

0:00 Hey, this is a great idea! I can't believe I haven't done this before. I can show people what my rides are like.

0:13 Just keeping the camera looking straight ahead will be boring. I'll pan to the left!

0:19 And the right!

0:24 Well, I am going almost 20 MPH. I should show that, too!

0:30 Hmmm, I'm watching the road through the camera instead of watching the road itself. That might be a little dan--.... nah, who am I kidding. This is great! Safe and great!

0:35 Whoa, THAT was an unexpected little bump! Good thing it wasn't worse since I'm only hanging onto the handlebars with the tips of my left hand.

0:40 Hmmm... Road's a little curvy. That will add excitement to the video!

0:59 The mix of shadows and bright sunlight is making it a little difficult to see what's ahead. But hey, great video!

1:00 Hey, the trail isn't--
1:01 WTF?!?!? Why is the trail curving to the--
1:02 Maybe I should stop fil--
1:03 CLIP OUT! CLIP OUT! CLIP OUT! CLI--
1:03.5 I'd better stop filming. This is going to be embarrassing.
1:04 OH SHHHHH--

And then I ran into a chainlink fence. And two other cyclists saw me do it. They came up to me as I'm pulling myself up off the ground, my right foot still clipped in, camera clutched in my right hand, and the guy very slowly says to me, "Are you okay? Do you need help?"

Hehe.... maybe I do.

  • know it well. Between that curve and two of the underpass tunnels that have blind corner's ... the most dangerous places on the trail. I always leave plenty of space behind another rider there... drop it down a few gears... shout up the trail "COMING UP!!!" Hope you were not hurt too bad.

  • @dregerclock Just my pride!

  • Yea that turn sucks! its like a sharp turn with a steep uphill, I always clip out before i get there

  • @subing4miler You should try it with a camera in your hand!

  • I really hate that part, i thought it would be a good idea to try going full speed down the slope and almost went flying off the trail.

  • @prez2012 - HA! Glad that was all that was hurt!

  • oh yes....the section before the golf course...I almost busted my arse the first time as well, def would have if I had a camera in the hands...I was in aero position on a tri bike, so took a second to get to the brakes.

  • That's the same place my bro-in-law crashed going the other way as a new rider, tacoed his front wheel, knocked his wind out, and broke 3 ribs. I always yell, "Comming around!" there since you can't see around very well. They just made it worse with that gate that swings out the wrong way making you slow down before you start the short incline that's between 20 and 25% and is too steep to walk up in cleats. It's bad news if you have to stop right there! Who designs therse things anyway??

  • No way...I don't know how u did it with a cam.

Now I get off before I go under that road and make a right and ride to the stop sign and do a U-turn. I almost got into a couple of accidents going under that road. They need to widen that road and make the turn easier to maneuver.
