Leeches

I went on holiday over Christmas to Sri Lanka. We decided to stop off at various places and visited some dense rain forest areas. Here are some of my favourite clips from the jungle. Ignore the first clip. It's just somebody looking over the hotel wall at a load of people in the swimming pool.

Leeches aren't nice. You might think of them as blood sucking slugs- they're more like stretchy rubber tubes which can travel surprisingly fast. They wait on leaves for people to walk past- one even landed on me when I walked under a tree. They can chase people as well. In short, they're not very nice and simply brushing past some grass will get some on you in high up, humid areas of Sri Lanka. They're incredibly clever and it reminded me too much of Morrowind to stop, look down and see a hoarde of them coming to attack me. I'm amazed I only got two on me, both of which I found and managed to get off (with the help of some guides). You have to be careful though- pulling them off will leave their teeth embedded in you.

WARNING, there might be blood. You'll have to watch to find out.

I think leeches only live in very wet places.

In Sri Lanka they're found in high areas, because it's too hot for them further down.

In rain time they come out, in dry time you cant find them...in MAthugama my grandfather, my mothers father used to walk on his large wild lands barefoot at like 6 in the morning with mist still in those areas and come back home with a plenty of these, he just stir and hit his foot on ground few times and they fal off and dries and dies as sun rises...
