What if George Washington had shown up in Spain, seeking to become a Spaniard because he was intimidated by the British? would he have been considered "breeding stock" by political leaders?
When Mr. Rubio says he is the 'son of exiles' because of Castro--he is being disingenuous...the record shows--his family willingly expatriated themselves from their native country 2 to 3 years before Fidel Castro defeated the dictator Fulgencio Batista (who was a Mafia darling).

He has described his legacy as, "Cuban Americans forced off their beloved island..." His premise rings hollow to many--which in reality see his rant as lacking any reasonable expectation of credibility; an opening act in the national stage--that would never be perceived as a case-study in heroic valor and moral leadership.
His political theme may impress 'some' Floridians, who struggle with a self-imposed identity crisis--but would likely not impress mainstream America.
