Make the floor look like dirt or something,then put random stains and puddles of blood.Some bones and rusty weapons would look cool too

You should put some towers between the half circles, for rich people and stuff.

Great idea and a possible (and very feasible) upgrade in the future. They won't appear in the first iteration however.

A simple coil of green stuff should suffice to seem the cracks.
You could add a few trap doors in the arena itself to give the illusion of a celler/basement. Like you said: the tiger from Gladiator.
Although, most people would be able to make a makeshift trapdoor so I'm not sure if its worth the effort.
