At about 4:30 p.m. EST - January 3, 2010 - the Winter 2010 Torch Relay Team reached the Terry Fox Memorial Lookout. The video features selected torchbearers Kailie Keast, 17 and Dakota Sagutch, 16. With much anticipation by the torchbearers and crowd alike, the torches were lit about an hour later beneath the commemorative statue of Canadian Marathon of Hope runner and hero - Terry Fox.
Be sure to read more of Kailie's bravery at the link provided below! It was later disclosed to me that day that Kailie has the same cancer as Terry Fox. An article pertaining to her inspiring story was featured in Thunder Bay's Chronicle Journal the next day.

This video is as a result of my brother and I having just made a three hour trek to drop my sister and nephew in Thunder Bay after their visit with us for the holidays. It was our intention thereafter to make a hasty one hour journey back to Nipigon in hopes of seeing the Torch Relay there. However, just before arriving, we encountered the caravan going the other way. The chase was on! We immediately swung the vehicle around and decided that we must follow and see what all the hoopla was about! After nearly an hour, we found ourselves at the Terry Fox Memorial Lookout where a small crowd was starting to assemble to see the selected youth who were given this prestigious honor to light the torches 'neath Canada's most celebrated hero. I'm happy to report, that it was a adventure well worth the while. I was glad to have brought along my video camera to capture this special event and share the moment and moments leading up to it. Great video Clarence! We were there and it was such an intimate ceremony and so awesome to have the torch relay at the Terry Fox |Monument looking out over the City of Thunder Bay. It was wonderful that people spontaneously starting singing O Canada...made it that much more special and touching. Thanks for sharing Kaili's story as well. This makes it even more special. Great song choice too!
