@BobMonkfish Adding... the only exception to the "ghost" thing in English is that "Holy Ghost" is still occasionally heard... Otherwise the term "ghost" has got itself a very restricted meaning these days.

@JasonIsKing227 Webster's etymology of demon - "Middle English demon, from Late Latin & Latin; Late Latin daemon evil spirit, from Latin, divinity, spirit, from Greek daimōn, probably from daiesthai to distribute — more at tide". Evil spirits were originally called "kakodaimon" or cacodemon. It's a bit like "ghost" - in German, "geist" just means a spirit, as in "Zeitgeist". In English, "ghost" means a dead person, usually wrapped in a white sheet!

This a lot of reenactment and showmanship ... these traditions are gone.
But, still I wish the US gov't would use this kind of killing than what it does. It would save us a whole of money (like $1 trillion since 9-11). And, troops and officers could stay in shape by dancing the "murderous" rituals.

YumRelsih is spot on. The spin makes the situations more dramatic than they are. Sri Lanka is an island on a major sea route. It's been a melting pot for thousands of years. colonization and urbanization killed off most of these ancient beliefs. They no longer exist except in fork-lore and legend. 'Devil dancers' are sort of primitive medics rather than the evil voodoo types the doc implies.
