  • This song is about fighting for irish freedom from english occupation of Ireland. Not the weather

  • Yes thanks for that i take your comment fully onboard and i have shown such struggles in other video's i have made concerning Ireland , it was hard finding the right sort of footage for this so i instead went for footage of this film for a struggle of a different type - trichoone .

  • oh i do miss the isle of man ^^, i know what you mean about that

  • search Ellan Vannin you might like it - trichoone .

  • Yesss! Didn't mean to twist your arm, but thanks very much. Reminds me of standing on Spanish Head, Isle of Man in pouring rain and a howling gale. The seals cavorting in the water on the beach below us enjoyed the experience better than we did.

  • just thinking if you like the Isle of Man type in Ellan Vannin another of mine i think you will like trichoone .

  • its mel against the jews. Right on riggs.

  • this song is not about the irish struggle, as moya states its about the loss of gripp russia had off the eastern countries, their fight of independence ,people power

  • @Jesrbryant Really? interesting. That is a very brave thing to do. Though it is retarded to me the anger people have around such issues. Catholicism and Protestantism are like Allopathic and Osteopathic medicine. A belief in Jesus Christ is a belief in Jesus Christ.

  • @gariadara Actually, Maire has been an Evangelical for the last 20 years. Her and her husband do something very brave, and attend an Assemblies of God Church in Dublin.

  • this is an irish song of passion........and human beings are up against the wind...

  • @TheIrishReviver No, the old ways in this song wouldn't be paganism per se. Clannad is a deeply catholic band (the entire Brennan family is very Catholic). There could be other interpretations of "old ways." Not everything have to be about religion.

  • @TheIrishReviver It is terrorism when you blow people up.

  • @elkeify Forgot to mention if you into Gaelic Pagan mythology/history all that lark look up 'Oisin' the warrior-poet who represents paganism while St Paddy stands for christianity.

Most people are also generally familiar with 'The Headless Horseman' who was meant to be a pagan god called 'Crom Cruich' but once Ireland converted he refused, lost his head and became an evil spirit.

Then the English got their paws into the story and what are we left with - nothing but a headless highway man :(

  • @warrat300 What shits this!?

"Saved us" mate go stick your head back up your arse, the Irish have never needed saving and even if you offered it, you'd be told where to go.

The Irish don't start wars we just punch the head of each other for fun. We dont give a shit about empire or conquest (because we have the most beautiful island on the planet why bother).

But those who try tend to regret it and call us terrorists.

  • @elkeify 'The old ways' refers to Paganism in Ireland, the new way obviously Christianity and St Patrick (Who despite being our national hero comes across as a right wanker in much of the later Ossianic poetry.

Throughout the Celtic mythological cycle you find parallels between traditional paganism and the 'new'

    Religion (Christianity).

What your girl Sian's talking about is called the Celtic Revival and the Irish Literary Revival - taking place 1000 years later if not more.
